Zara will launch its own online shopping site September 7th, 2011, reports say. The Spanish retail outlet has seen a surge in popularity amongst fashion aficionados and bloggers alike. Zara is owned by Inditex, a Spanish company that owns eight different fashion retail brands. This news comes on the heels of company upheavals, as Spain’s richest man and founder of the chain, Amancio Ortega, stepped down as chairman a few weeks back. Ortega is the 7th richest man in the world, and his daughter, heiress Marta Oretega, reportedly works in the Marketing department of Zara.
Hopefully, online sales will help boost figures for Zara. Many of Zara’s top competitors such as Limited Brands, Gap, and Topshop have had online fronts set up for years. A notable rival, however, H&M, has still not announced a final date for online US shopping.
